Chanel’s Sous le Signe du Lion Flies to Dubai

Gabrielle Chanel has always loved symbolic objects and lucky charms, and Sous le Signe du Lion collection is inspired – like all her other collections – by one that is close to her heart. This high-jewelry line is reminiscent of the Leo star sign of Gabrielle Chanel who was born on August 19th 1883. In her apartment at 31 Rue Cambon, the French designer surrounded herself with lion designs made of wood, silver or bronze. 

Considered as the king of zodiacs and the spirit of the French luxury brand, the lion occupies a peculiar place in the designer’s imaginary world. After the death of her great love, Boy Capel, Chanel travelled to Venice where lions decorated every building in the city to symbolize its power and dominance over the world during the Renaissance. A powerful woman, Gabriel was inspired by this symbol and used it in couture details such as buttons, handbag clasps and brooches.

Sous le Signe du Lion high-jewelry collection was unveiled during Fall/Winter 2014-15 haute Couture Fashion Week in Paris. It features 58 lion-inspired jewelry pieces that highlight the depth of Chanel’s creativity and expertise in this field. In this collection, the brand manipulated the lion motif to feature it in each and every jewelry piece.

During the month of February, the exceptional pieces of ‘Sous le Signe du Lion’ collection will be on display at Chanel’s jewelry and watches boutique at the Dubai Mall.
