The Checkered Blazer – The Do’s and Don’ts

It has been popping up everywhere, from our Instagram Feeds to the latest street style shots. Yes, the checkered blazer has sure put its grand return on a high pedestal. We knew the trend was going to strike huge chords as soon as Balenciaga showcased its shouldered blazers!

Ever get tired of wearing a neutral blazer, let alone a pattern-free one? I mean, how interesting can a grey or black blazer be? So if you’ve been eyeing the gorgeous Insta posts that have been flooding your feed, you’ll be glad to know that the rumor is indeed true; the checkered beauties are here to stay. They’re oversized, plaid and most commonly injected with a grey base. We’ve seen socialites and it-girls wearing them with denim skirts, mini dresses or matching trousers. Characterized by a vintage feel and a formal vibe, checkered blazers have found an enthusiastic public, with everyone who’s anyone drenching in them.

So ladies, here’s our own little list of do’s and don’ts when you find yourselves craving a little plaid-affair!

Do pick an oversized checkered blazer if you want said piece to achieve its ultimate goal of fashion bewilderment.

Don’t mix and match it with another pattern. The plaid blazer is already visually invasive, you don’t need another layer of madness in your outfit.

Do get creative by pairing your plaid blazer with mom pants. Throw on a slogan t-shit and you’re golden!

Don’t forget about the skirt suit. Get yourself a matching checkered skirt and turn your outfit into the season’s biggest statement.

Do consider buying it a couple of sizes up for an added effect.

If you’re feeling like a dare-devil, there’s only one print we’ll allow: a floral dress. Do pair them together and throw on a black fedora atop your head.
