My Jewelry Obsession – Is it a Watch Brand or a Watchmaking House?

Between a watch brand and a watchmaking house, there is a huge difference. And for those of us who are watch enthusiasts, using the right naming plays a quintessential role in our life, especially when we are in the middle of a conversation about the things that we love the most, timepieces.

A watch brand – no matter how famous it is – sells watches that it doesn’t manufacture in-house. To be recognized as a manufacture or house, the company must produce at least one in-house mechanical movement. As exceptional as this movement is to be, the company will achieve a more desirable success. Therefore, the brand requires a team of qualified staff and expert watchmakers, who will manufacture a movement worthy the high horology standards.

This decision is filled with risks notably that of not meeting the rigorous watch industry certification standards. Rewards and patents are also quintessential in the progress of a manufacture-to-be and are surely qualities that will earn it an ever-growing recognition. The company should thus commit itself to excellence, right from its early days. This way, it will get the best of both worlds: its clientele would admire the impeccable quality of its offering and it will set itself as a force to be reckoned with in a world where progress is essential and failure is not an option.
