How to Keep Your Velvet Shoes Clean

When word got out that velvet was back on top of the fashion game, everyone who’s anyone went totally crazy for the trend. The fabric was literally everywhere; from dresses, to jackets, co-ords bags and most importantly, shoes. And so, wearing velvet shoes was an absolute must for any true fashion endorser – think velvet platforms, velvet thigh-high boots, velvet pumps, velvet sneakers, velvet everything! And if you’re thinking there was an actual world domination, then you thought right. Every single brand followed suit, from Prada to Miu Miu, Fendi, Saint Laurent, Stuart Weitzman and so many more! Celebrities were no strangers to the infatuation and we’ve spotted Taylor Swift, Kendall Jenner and Cara Delevingne strutting their incredibly good looks in velvet wonders. Safe to say, everyone was sold.

Which brings us to the issue at hand; there’s actually a small problem – dare we say – that comes with wearing velvet shoes. How can you, a perfectly normal human being, not soil your precious velvet shoes? The answer is as simple as the drive to keep them completely intact, even in the most horrid of days. Curious? Scroll down to find out more!

  1. Since velvet is having such a moment right now, you probably can’t resist wearing them on the rainiest of days. So in that case, we would strongly advise you not to do so, as water is really bad for velvets.
  2. Always prevent your shoes from getting sullied by using a water protector spray before heading out. The latter is a great way to clean them out later on!
  3. Use a dry cloth to swipe away any lingering dust by focusing on one direction only.
  4. If, by any chance, you found a stain on your shoes, prepare a mix of an extremely soft dish detergent with just a tiny bit of water and use a brush to scrub the stain.
