The shave

Answered by barbers Samantha and Tony

Should the groom change his facial hair style for the wedding?

In my professional opinion, do not drastically change your facial hair before your own wedding. If you usually have a full beard and that's how your wife-to-be loves you, don't shave it all off because you feel like a smooth face goes better with a tux. Likewise, this is also not the best time to start cultivating a cool moustache. Follow the bride’s rules for makeup: you want to look like YOU on your wedding day, not someone else.

How much time before the wedding should he shave?

It depends on the groom and their skin type for the best time to shave. I would say 2 days before the wedding would generally be best so any irritation settles down.

What is the best and most popular pre-wedding shave?

In this generation, many men don’t shave for weddings as it is all about the beards. That’s what women are falling for these days.

The haircut

How much time before the wedding should the groom cut his hair?

If you’ve got short hair, you would want to get a cut about a week before the wedding. But guys with very short hair should do it two days before so it will not look like you just left the barbers. This will give the hair time to relax and settle a bit before the wedding. It will also give you time for adjustments if the cut isn't exactly what you asked for.

Should the groom change the style of his haircut for the wedding?

Get your hair done by your regular barber and do not change because they already know your hair patterns and what is best for your face shape.

What treatments can he use to make his hair look healthy?

I would recommend a scalp conditioning treatment; this helps hair look shinny and full of life for the big day!

Skin, Body and Nails

Any tips about pre-wedding skin, body and nail preparation?

For a groom to have a polished and glowing look on his wedding day, he needs at least 3-4 weeks of a good quality face and body regime. Since it's a wedding, do not hesitate to visit us at The Fix at Chaps and Co Barbershop. Our therapist can assist you in identifying your skin type and recommend facials, products and frequency of visits before your wedding.

For face care, opt for deep cleansing or anti-ageing facials that can be done twice a week for 3-4 weeks. At Chaps and Co, we have Mr. Handsome and Forever Young. Both are excellent facials that use Gentleman's Tonic, which is natural plant base for men's skin. Gentlemen's tonic is also excellent for those who frequently shave and is simple for home use as well.

Body and nail care is just as important as face care. A weekly body scrub and massage can ease the stress and give you polished glowing skin. Also, a weekly manicure and pedicure will sharpen the groom. Do this in 3-4 weeks before the wedding and you will be looking your absolute best for sure.

We also recommend proper sleep of at least 8 hours a day and healthy balanced meals to allow the groom to not only look his best but feel his best too.
