Meghan Markle and Prince Harry – A Modern-Day Fairytale

So Meghan Markle just got married to Prince Harry and we’re all here daydreaming of yet another fairytale story to come. The Suits actress made her wedding day debut in a Givenchy Couture gown custom designed by Artistic Director Clare Waight Keller and as Kensington Palace would have it, wore “a timeless minimal elegance referencing the codes of the iconic house”.

Markle kept us all on our toes, as everyone was eagerly trying to guess who she would eventually pick as her wedding dress designer. The duo worked closely together to create the ultimate gown, one that would symbolize Markle’s status as a modern-day princess.

“It is truly an honor to have been given the opportunity to closely collaborate with Meghan Markle on such a remarkable occasion,” stated Clare Waight Keller.

While Markle’s dress was made out of pure lines and a graphic open bateau neckline, it was a wide shift from the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton’s wedding gown. The latter was designed by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen and was meticulously upholstered with handmade fine lace – in contrast with Meghan’s minimalist dress. Call it modernity or a statement, the shift beautifully transcended unto the Royal wedding. To top it all off, murmurs of a comparison between the late Lady D’s wedding gown and that of Meghan Markle were also filling up the scene. But one thing was for sure, Markle followed in Diana and Kate’s footsteps, collaborating with a British designer for the grand royal wedding. And yes, all three gowns were as spectacular from the back as they were from the front – we’re definitely talking about the to-die-for billowing veils.

Speaking of, Markle’s five-meter long veil spectacularly included the distinctive flora of all 53 Commonwealth countries. Even the adorable Princess Charlotte wore a Givenchy dress for the Royal Wedding? Could this get any cuter?

Now let’s talk rings. Apart from her gorgeous Cartier set, Markle borrowed something blue from Lady Diana, as she wore the late princess’ blue cocktail ring to the wedding reception.

As Meghan Markle tied the knot with the 6th in line to the British Throne, celebrities and elites alike – from Georges and Amal Clooney, to Serena Williams, Princess Eugenie of York, Markle’s Suits costars Patrick Adams, Gabriel Macht and Sarah Rafferty and so many more, – gathered to celebrate an event to remember, one that would be watched by the whole wide world – literally. Anyone up for another fairytale story?
