Does Your Suit Fit You Right?

If you hear Barney Stinson’s famous “Suit Up” in your head on the daily, then you’re probably a suit-lover at heart. And what’s not to like really? Suits are just the best way to convey the message if you want to be taken seriously, be it at work or outside of the office. There’s something about them that exude an attitude of confidence – something we all long for. To top it all off, a suit makes everything better, from a bad-hair day to a bad-work day or a bloated belly- day from yesterday night’s heavy dinner. So what are you still waiting for to stock up with suits?

And while it’s pretty hard to mess up wearing a suit, the matter of size and the right fit can be quite the deal-breaker if you don’t pay attention to even the slightest details. To help you out, we’ve rounded up a few guidelines to follow in order to get the perfect suit!

  1. First thing’s first, when buying a suit, always make sure the shoulder pads end exactly with your shoulders. If they’re narrower, then you should think about a larger size. And if they’re sliding off your shoulders, then consider getting a smaller size.
  2. More often than not, you’ll need to tailor your suit again. But if you’re not into that whole hassle, make sure the jacket sleeves meet the part between your wrist and the base of your thumb.
  3. The lapels should be flat on your chest once your suit is buttoned. If they’re not, then get yourself a bigger size.
  4. The sleeves should hug your actual arms in a slimming way.
  5. As for the trousers, always make sure that they hover just above your shoes. Not longer and not shorter.
