Books We Love – Audemars Piguet 20th Century Complicated Wristwatches

Have you ever read a book that took you through the history of complicated wristwatches? Well, we must admit that that’s a dream come true and Audemars Piguet is the one that’s making it a reality.

In its first book ever dedicated entirely to the history of the manufacturers complicated wristwatches, the Haute Horlogerie watchmaker showcases the results of 4 years of archival research. From the world’s first minute repeating wristwatch crafted in 1892 until the revival of complications in the late 1970s, Audemars Piguet produced a total of 550 complicated watches, 2 of which are identical. With 35 minute repeaters, 188 calendar wristwatches, 307 chronograph timepieces and 20 double complication watches featuring both calendar and chronograph in its portfolio, the entire story is unveiled in this edition.

For the first time, Audemars Piguet’s complicated watches are revealed through detailed photography, enriching narratives, historic documents, archival images and technical specifications. In addition, this book also counts the story of the revival of complications that occurred during the height of the Quartz Crisis in the late 1970s, as well as the brand’s role in shifting the focus back to complications.
