Animal Instinct – The Do’s and Don’ts

One of Fall’s hottest runway trends must definitely be the animal-infested prints. Could it be the 80s memorabilia taking over our hearts? Or is it just a treat for sore eyes? Either way, the trend was there and it was welcomed with arms wide open.

Animal prints remind us of the ever-so famous femme fatale, of the woman who dares to shine and the temptress that fears nothing. So it only seems fair designers use this pattern to their advantage, doesn’t it? We’re not ones to name-drop but Tom Ford, Calvin Klein and Dolce & Gabbana were high on top of the designers’ list attempting to revive the oldies.

Although it’s a tricky trend to wear, we’ve spotted a lot of fabulous outcomes and a whole lot of cringe-worthy outfits. Which leads us to this statement: if you want to wear something bold, then you better hope you do it well. And so, we’ve gathered a few golden rules for you to follow while wearing roaring animal prints.

Do stick to loose pieces while wearing animal prints to avoid the whole daring-meets-vulgar combination. Understated and feminine are two key words to keep in mind.

Don’t forget that the easiest way to start off with this trend is to try animal printed accessories beforehand – think bags, shoes or even scarves and belts.

Do match an animal printed item with another pattern, from stripes to floral or even polka dots.

Don’t confuse yourself with an animal though. In other words, an all-animal look is a big no no.

Do pair a leopard coat with an all-black outfit for an added spark.

But most of all, don’t go for something too short or too osé.
