5 Things You Need to Know About Being a Maid of Honor

There’s a reason it’s called “maid of honor”; it is actually an honored role that should be respected as much as cherished by both parties.

But being a maid of honor is all fun and games until you have to face the wrath of bridezilla herself. If you think you’re going to be tasked with some pretty easy chores, then think again. We must warn you, you’re going to have to go through hell and back to please the bride and it is going to be the most challenging role you’ll ever take on. But as crazy as it may seem, a bride can turn even the most unlikely, irresponsible bridesmaid into an extraordinary maid of honor.

That said, since you’ve been given this amazing honor, here are 5 things you should know about your role.

  1. Being a maid of honor comes with a lot of pressure, not only do you have to lend a helping hand, but you have to also be emotionally there for the bride. So before you even think about doing something else, start by supporting the bride and by feeding her with good thoughts and positive energy.
  2. You always have to be present during fittings and important meetings. As a maid of honor, your advice counts a lot, and so stating your own opinion (mildly of course) can score you some extra points.
  3. You have to lead the bridesmaid troop. Make sure that there isn’t any tension between the bridesmaids and coordinate everything as per the bride’s requirements. Allocate duties and take the reins of the bridal party.
  4. You’re the right hand woman to the bride. And so, you should be helping her with all the little tasks her future husband has failed to do. For instance, be her go-to person for advice related to the cake, the decoration and so on.
  5. Finally, on the wedding day, be the one to make sure she actually goes down the aisle (sanely). Hold her bouquet, make sure she doesn’t trip on her train and of course, smile!
