The New Rules of Belting

Simply put, there aren’t any. But if you want to stand out, instead of thinking of the big do’s and don’ts, you have to start looking for ways to elevate the effect a belt has on your outfit. Let’s take a minute here to appreciate the benefits of belts; not only do they make or break your outfit, but they have this uncanny ability to spruce up your look in such a discrete way that your clothes won’t know what hit them.

The trick here is to make sure your belt doesn’t create some nasty curves you never really wanted in the first place. Belting your outfit should first and foremost flatter your figure and second, render your look 10 times more stylish. Scroll below for some tried and tested tips.

  1. Belted trousers can come a long way if you’re trying to elongate your silhouette without trying too hard. Just cinch a thick belt on your waist to tighten the effect of your (somewhat) loose trousers.
  2. Since shirt dresses are obviously a thing now, just slip one on and add a leather belt to seal the deal. Sporty yet extremely feminine!
  3. The two-buckled belt is your go-to accessory this season. Westernize your look with this fabulous accoutrement and mix it in with some bohemian-inspired pieces.
  4. The Obi belt is back on track – thank you Louis Vuitton. Wear it with a midi skirt and a neutral shirt to maximize its effect.
  5. Make sure to pick the perfect length; you really don’t want it to squeeze out your intestines!
