Suiting Up With a Tee

Okay, so the words form an actual contradiction; the tee being way too casual and the suit being way too formal. Legend has it the two sides of the continuum are supposed to stay as far apart as possible, but as we all know, rules were meant to be broken, especially when it comes to fashion.

It has long been argued that wearing a t-shirt with a suit could come off as sloppy and undesirable. But like we said, who sticks to rules? In fact, some fashion endorsers are willing to bend the rules so much that they even went as far as suit-downgrading – in other words, creating the trend of suits made out of lighter fabrics. But we’ll leave that topic for another time.

So if you’re wondering how on earth you will pull off looking dapper in a suit and a plain t-shirt, we’ve got your covered.

1 – Firth  thing’s first, always go for a V-neck t-shirt. A crew neck tee will make your torso look a bit awkward, not to mention suffocating.

2– Once you get that figured out, pick a slim-fitting suit to accentuate the stylish edge you’re trying to pull off. A baggy suit – ergo an American suit – will make you look very ragged.

3– Go for a plain t-shirt, as patterns will automatically break your semi-formal vibe.

4–Now here’s the important part; do not tuck your tee in. Period.

5– Make sure the colors don’t clash. If you’re wearing a bright tee, go for a neutral suit and vice versa.

6– Finally, make sure you pair your modern suit and your tee with shiny loafers. And yes, you can forget about the socks, they’ll just ruin your stylish vibe.
