Marc Jacobs Fall/Winter 2018-2019 Ready-to-Wear

Whatever Marc Jacobs does he does in excess. The eerily vast dark space of the Armory in New York was a fittingly austere platform to show off the flamboyant and exuberant display of pure 80s excess for fall 2018. Taking all of the iconic fashion signatures of the era, Jacobs amplified them with even bigger silhouettes and bolder shoulders like the block colored double-faced cashmere coats styled with cartoonish black matador hats and exaggerated neck ties in iridescent taffetas. The extremes included cinched-in waists and ultra-slinky day dresses and for evening, statement taffeta gowns with sleeves piled high at the shoulders like voluminous flowers. Models sported geometric cut, two-tone hairstyles by Guido Paolo and Jacob’s “see-quins glam glitter” eye shadow. Raf Simons, Debbie Harry and Sofia Coppola came out to support this breathtaking finale to New York Fashion Week, one by a true fashion showman.
