It’s a Watch and Suit Match

Style is as important for men as it is for women. However, men’s choices in accessorizing their outfits are limited, so they have to pay special attention to the ones they usually wear – which are the belt, the shoes, the cufflinks and most importantly the watch. How many times did you wonder if your watch perfectly goes with your suit before going to an important meeting or to a formal event? Well, it’s time to discover the secret to mastering the art of wearing the proper watch in such situations.

First and foremost, you must know that, when wearing a suit, the straps of your watch should be of the same color as your shoes and belt. If you are wearing black shoes and a black belt, stick to a timepiece with black leather straps – and the same applies to brown. Keep in mind that the colors may differ a little bit in shades, but they should always be similar. Sticking to leather straps is also a must when it comes to formal dressing and so is the subtle design, as they are the most classic type of watches. So make sure to avoid chronograph watches and opt for a timepiece that only tells time.

The metal of the watch plays an important role in perfectly complementing your look as well. Choose a timepiece with a case, buckle and all metal details that match the metal color of your belt’s buckle, cufflinks and other accessories. While white gold or stainless steel watches only go with silver details, yellow metal details go with both yellow and pink gold timepieces.

Now you must be wondering if you should wear a watch with white or yellow gold details and we will tell you all about it. While a yellow gold watch is a perfect match for earthy tones, silver and white gold timepieces go with grey, blue and black.

If you are taking this game to the extreme and you carry a pocket watch, then you don’t have to stick to any of these rules. However, when it comes to wristwatches, it just makes perfect sense to pay attention to these details as they become a quintessential part of your outfit. Concerning the colors, while black is generally dressier than any other color; sometimes opting for brown seems a better option.

Our final tip would be: if your suit goes with both black and brown watches, compare the shoes and choose the dressier one.
