Is the Skirt Suit Your New Suit?

Remember Chanel’s painstakingly gorgeous tweed skirt suits your mother used to wear? Well, good news ladies; they are officially back. And not just Chanel for that matter. But let’s take one step back and mention our beloved pantsuits, as ever since Gigi Hadid sashayed her way down the red carpet in a drop-dead gorgeous red pantsuit that she lavishly paired with a gold choker, the world was ablaze with the trend. So why would anyone substitute the comfort of pants with a little skirt? Simply because fashion connoisseurs have been pulling out all the stops to bring back the good old days.

Conceived in the early 20th century, the skirt suit was nothing less than a formal combination of a matching blazer and a shapeless bottom. That is until Coco Chanel shook her magic wand and turned it into every woman’s dream. Since then, women have been gradually upgrading it from decade to decade, picking up pieces from the past and harnessing them into new outcomes and carrying the torch ever-so elegantly.

And while the feminist side of you may scream for pants and comfort, another side should strive for newness and avant-gardism. Why shouldn’t you bring your own twist into the skirt suit? Alicia Silverstone in “Clueless” sure did, so why not you? Wearing a skirt suit means you’re creative enough to pull out all the fashionable stops. Like it or not, skirt suits are back and all we hear is “Female Empowerment”.
