How to Work the Androgynous Look

Androgyny falls right between tomboy and girly-girl. It’s the expression used to describe the rise of femininity; but more importantly, it’s the expression that redefines womanhood, where all fashion-related boundaries are automatically dismissed.

In other words, the androgynous look is yet more proof that women can and will pull off any attire they wish to wear – no questions asked. The key to this self-liberating trend is to know what and how to wear the pieces in a way that highlights your femininity whichever way you want it to. The subtly flirtatious androgynous looks work well with almost any body type and much to our content, there are many ways to pull it off fashionably. For instance, some women might want to go all out and defy the odds in a mighty pantsuit. Others, on the other hand, would much rather throw on a flirty dress to match the ever-so androgynous derbies. And while consistency is key, sometimes, imperfect balance is key and more often than not, just imperative.

The Fall/Winter 2017-2018 runways were proof that androgyny is very in and very much attractive! We’ve seen minimalistic and tomboy-ish looks on the Céline runway, while Lanvin cranked it up a notch with a more sultry approach. Off-runway, fashion connoisseurs and influencers perfect the androgynous look as well, from Blake Lively, to Kendall Jenner – amongst others. Point is, if you like it, embrace it.

To help you perfect androgyny, we’ve collected some of the most memorable runway inspirations in the Photo Gallery below, along with a few must-have androgynous must-haves.
