How to Wear Belts like a Pro

You look good with it, but how good do you look without it?

Belts are pegged as the perfect way- nay the only way- to hold your trousers up. That said, there’s more to belts than meets the eye; they’re a great weapon to make a fashionable statement and – let’s be honest here- they’re the only weapon men use. Whether men wear a belt for distraction or just for technical purposes, at the end of the day, they’re just looking for that one subtle belt that will go with literally any trousers they own.

And while choosing belts can be quite tricky, it just seems fair to get the most out of them, don’t you think?

  1. Before even thinking about matching your belt with your trousers, you should first and foremost make sure it’s the right size, ergo within your waist range. You don’t want it to be too tight or too loose.
  2. Upon making sure that you got the size right, consider the formality of the dress code. Leave narrow belts for formal trousers and chinos, and pair wide belts with denims and cargo pants.
  3. Your shoes should always match your belt with your shoes. So, if your belt is black, your shoes should also be black. However, if you’re wearing white shoes, then black is your safest option. The same goes for the material of the accessories; leather with leather, suede with suede and so on.
  4. Make sure the buckle isn’t too loud. Your best bet? Let it be subtle and classy.
