Engagement Etiquette – To the Happy Couple!

He finally did it! He popped the question! And while you’ve dreamt about this moment forever, it was just ten times better than your imagination. Now we know you’re probably thinking right now of that ring selfie you’ll be posting on Instagram, but hit pause on the whole “sharing the great news via Social Media” for a while; you’ve got better things to do, from picking your bridal gown to planning the whole wedding shenanigans.

But first, let’s talk engagement party. From preparing the first wedding-related soirée to planning everything accordingly with your fiancé, we’ve got just the rules for you.

  1. Refrain from posting any pictures of your ring on Instagram before sharing the news with your loved ones first. From personal experience, no one likes to find out that a close friend got engaged via Instagram – especially not the mom of said newly engaged person. Once you’ve shared it with your family, relatives and close friends, you can go ahead and share it with the rest of the world.
  2. Now the engagement party. Preparing the guest-list is as tricky as the whole planning consortium. Whoever is invited to your engagement party should automatically be invited to your wedding, so choose wisely. Simply put, be picky and don’t feel pressured to invite every single person you’ve come across in your life.
  3. Your engagement party should be held 1 to 3 months after the proposal, and not longer – which gives you plenty of time to focus solely on your wedding.
  4. Finally, your outfit. It’s been a common misconception that the bride-to-be should wear white to her engagement party. But it doesn’t have to be that way; it’s your party and you can wear whichever color you want!

Enjoy ladies!
