Books We Love – Dior by Roger Vivier

“My friend Roger Vivier puts shoes on the most elegant feet in the world, helping me to realize my dream of dressing the “Christian Dior”. This is what Monsieur Dior wrote in his memoires and indeed, this collaboration between the house and the famed shoe designer helped give the Dior look its finishing touch from 1953 until 1963.

Published by Rizzoli, this book explores the numerous affinities Roger Vivier and Christian Dior shared. It retraces this historic collaboration by featuring the footwear designer’s first shoes that appeared on Dior’s Fall/Winter runway in July 1953, as well as everything that inspired Roger Vivier – such as Monsieur Dior’s favorite flower which appeared as a silky ornament on a delicate pair of sandals.

This release also highlights the boldness of the famed shoe designer in breaking the boundaries of creativity by designing masterpieces, from the C-shaped Choc heel that he designed for the Spring-Summer 1959 collection to the Tibet heel, which was lower and shaped like an inverted pyramid and the Virgule heel created in 1962.

With engaging texts by Elizabeth Semmelhack, this book counts the creative friendship between two true icons in the French fashion history.
