Beauty Tip of the Week – Mixology

Ever find yourself wanting to make the most out of your beauty products? Or maybe wanting a few more shades of lipstick? Or better yet, transforming your foundation into an extension of your skin care? I share with you Mixology!

As a makeup artist, I do this as a regular part of my beauty routine on models and myself. The best part is, mixology is for everyone! You can literally upgrade your products without going to the nearest makeup counter to buy more!

My favorite product combinations which you can do at home are the following:

1. Create your own signature scent by doubling up on perfume. I love mixing two scents together especially when seasons change. For example, I’m a huge fan of Serge Lutens perfumes which are literally made for mixing! I pair up musk with vanilla and the result is divine!

2. Mixing moisturizer with a tiny drop of essential oil. This will really up your skin care game, in addition to leaving your skin super soft and supple for makeup application.

3. I love mixing a good illuminating primer with foundation. The result? Good coverage with a beautiful sheen and glow. I love mixing Becca Cosmetics illuminating primer with any foundation! It leaves you with a beautiful veil of skin.

4. Lipsticks! Need I say more?

I’m sure if we have too much of something, it’s definitely Lipstick! You can make your shades darker, lighter, redder, more daring, more subtle, simply by mixing.

The best way would be to scrape off some of the product and with a spatula mix them together and apply with a brush.

An easier way is to simply use LIPMIX by mac cosmetics which is pure pigment for the lips. The possibilities are endless with this one.

5. Create your own magic pigment pot! This is reserved for the super creative and strictly with crushed powder products. I love mixing different pigments together, and sometimes adding some professional glitter in the mix for some extra dazzle.

6. Mixing gloss with powder for a super metallic and glossy finish! This works great with highly pigmented products and will take the finish of your pigment powder to the next level.

Mixology is everything to me! Start by mixing foundation to reach your exact shade, and take it from there.

Makeup is magic!
