Amanjena – A Taste of Luxury

A peaceful paradise dotted by date palms and olive trees; a resort named Amanjena. Christened Amanjena – ‘aman’ in Sanskrit meaning ‘peaceful’ and ‘jena’ in Arabic meaning ‘paradise,’ it’s fair to assume you’re onto a good thing. And the resort doesn’t disappoint. Think an amalgam of Moorish and Arabian inspiration; more inspirations from rosy-hued walls and Medina al-Hamra (Red City), pisé (rammed earth) buildings and green tones.

Offering tantalizing views of the Atlas Mountains, its setting – in the south of Marrakech on the road to Ouarzazate – is complemented by the serenity and gardens in the sophisticated palace-like structure. Carrying Moroccan escapism to whole new levels, Amanjena is an Arabian fantasy unarguably favored by A-listers, celebrities and dignitaries, so much so that some scenes from Sex & The City-2 were shot here. One thing is certain; you’ll soon feel the warmth of the service seep into your soul.

Check into one of the 32 exquisitely appointed Pavilions, six two-storied Maisons or the impressive Al-Hamra Maison. Amanjena sure delivers whatever you need: beckoning spas and hammams, a gorgeous 33-metre heated outdoor swimming pool and stellar food at the restaurants; one serving Moroccan and Mediterranean cuisine and the other specialising in Thai, and loads of downtime.

Soft peach hued walls, arched moucharabieh wood screens, stucco Venetian domes, emerald-clay roofs, open-air courtyards, marble fountains, imposing double oak doors, handcrafted in Agadir and embellished with Berber motifs are some of the distinctive features of Amanjena.

Take a guided tour of the city, visit the Djemaa el Fna and Saadian Tombs. Stroll through the Agdal Garden and Menara Garden; capture the colorful Majorelle Garden on instagram. Immerse yourself in Marrakech’s rustic charm – and then some more in Amanjena’s serenity.

Getting There: Most international flights to Morocco fly into Casablanca. Frequent daily air service connects Casablanca and Marrakech. Direct flights to Marrakech operate from London, Paris, Lisbon, Munich and major European cities. Amanjena is a short 20-minute drive from the airport.

Book It: You could either book a tailored vacation through any of the leading luxury travel operators or directly with Amanjena at www.aman.com.
