190 years of Guerlain

Perfumer-chemist Pierre-François Pascal Guerlain founded his company in 1828 and went on to create one of the first avant-garde skincare products, Crème à la Fraise, in 1840, and the first fragrance combining natural and synthetic ingredients, Jicky, in 1889.

Guerlain has created innovations for women around the world with pure ingenuity, from the Empress Eugenie for whom Eau de Cologne Impériale was created in 1853 to Lily, the discreet wife lying behind the creation of L’Heure Bleue. Indeed, Guerlain has truly walked side by side with the evolution of femininity, putting into sight the bullet lipstick Ne M’oubliez Pas (as early as 1870), predicting the fashion of Orientalism with Mitsouko in 1919, and complying with the tanning trends with the Terracotta powder in 1984.

But more importantly, Guerlain’s bottles and cases are truly works of art, featuring nothing less than faultless technical expertise – with a special nod to the Shalimar bottle that obtained first prize at the International Exhibition of Decorative Arts in 1925.

“In 190 years, Guerlain has taken root in our memories and spread its wings all around the world,” said Laurent Boillot, CEO of Guerlain since 2007.
